Were they aware of the investigation to come forward?

There will likely be some false claims, but those shouldn't be too difficult for investigators to weed out.

But assuming that this guy only had 8 victims, given his "charity" and such, seems very very unlikely...

This is how all of these cases go. Once the wall of fear/intimidation/shame is torn down, it's easier for other victims to come forward.

A 15-year old boy spoke up to his gym coach 11 months ago, and the high school gym coach had the integrity to do what a legendary and powerful football coach did not. He called the authorities, which triggered the grand jury investigation, which led to the initial discovery of 8 victims.

This is how a lot of rape cases work. Not everybody is ready to come out right away and go "yeah sure I was raped when I was 9" why is it so hard to understand the amount of shame that comes with rape...as a minor?

I knew this was coming. I even called for it. But what really burns my ass are all the Monday Morning quarterbacks that have a microphone or a keyboard, get up on their high horse and pass judgement on a situation they would never be able to handle on their best fucking day.

It seems when a situation like this arises, it's so easy for everyone to step up and have these images of granduer where you would be the point man of justice, and if you were in his shoes it would have gone differently.

When it comes to child rape there is no "high horse." The facts are if you see or hear about it happening you have an obligation to put an end to it and you certainly don't let the perp continue to do it on your watch.

Paterno certainly has a lot of responsibility and has high expectations and this is due to his good work....and he certainly reeped the benefits of obtaining most of those expectations. However, when your in that position you have to take full responsibility for what goes on on your watch. As a molder of men and as a football coach Paterno's legacy has not changed. However, we all should learn something from this.

I agree with you that I hope none of us ever have to deal with something like this, but not in within the context that you said it ( as a way to question our ability to handle it the way we criticized him) but instead due to the nature of the crime, which is so devestating.

Again that has a lot to do with the psychological scarring from something like a rape. Comparing the two A"coming forward" mindsets doesn't jive because one is mainly because of money/fame and the other is because of shame, embarrassment, fear, regret, etc.

They don't usually advertise grand jury investigations. They interviewed and found 8 victims. It's not like a Maury advertisement where they take out a commercial to say "Hey were you raped by Jerry Sandusky, please call 1800-XXX-XXXX"
