ok i got mass effect 2 now but i havent played it yet but ill have mass effect 1 in the morning. im wondering if i should start mass effect 1 first? i have never played it yet at all. but i heard lots of good stuff about the game. is it pretty much a rpg? i haven't really ever gotten into rpgs someone help me out here

action rpg. definately play ME1 first. you will love it, and love ME2 even more after

2011-early 2012 probably.

About 25-30 hours if you want to do a lot of stuff. 15-20 jut main story, about 40 doing everything.

This game might change your mind. The best thing is that it plays like a 3rd person shooter.

10.5 hours in and I've recruited everyone. I'm doing loyalty missions now.

Yeah, definitely play ME1 first, if not just because it'll give you a better grasp of the story, then because it'll be REALLY hard to go back to it after ME2. ME2 just improves on it so much.

yeah i agree with seth. ME1 is an awesome game, but if you put in ME2 you will have trouble going back and playing ME1.

for a game thats over 2 years old, ME1 will blow you away. But in that 2 years, bioware has been able to tweak, tighten, and mold ME2 into somthing alot better.

if you have not played ME1, go play it....but do it before you play ME2

only things i see arent new

 

the only thing i see as new (if u can even call it that) is that you can take any loyal power that you unlocked. you get 50K of all minerals. you get 200K credits and you keep all you points.....but none of that is new

i wanted to have my career at level 30 for ME3 and play thru with my fully powered badass adept. so thats why i am doing a 2nd run

i think i recall seeing that there were some unlockable things that you would see in a 2nd playthru....i dont want to know what those are

i do know of one thing they took away on additional play thrus

 

supposedly you dont get to goto the collectors ship when you continue past your first play thru. each career only gets to goto that ship once

you still go to the Collector's Ship, you just can't select a weapon proficiency with an imported ME2 character, because your selection from the previous playthrough carries over.

I started the 2nd playthrough last night, and noticed the additonal power, and all the resources and such. I could change my characters appearance, but couldn't change from soldier to another type, so I'm not sure I even want to keep going. The extra power thing would be cool if I could use it in connection with playing as a different type, maybe a vanguard or something.

 

even that extra power isnt new cause u get that in the first run thru. Plus once you get the advanced training research again, u can select any of those loyalty powers

ok....nevermind. i was about to quote the wiki.
just the other day the wiki said you could only run thru this on the first playthru. Now, that entire comment about this is gone. It must have been edited

Yeah no matter what you do, once you beat ME2 once with any character, any imported character you use either from ME2 or ME1 gets ridiculous bonus' (choose a power, 50k all resources, 200k credits, and 25% extra all exp. points). Can't confirm if just started a regular ME2 game without importing would net these perks.

i use slam. I put points into level 4 so i have heavy slam. Its fun!
i am gonna re distribute my points so i can have level 4 shockwave. I didnt use it during my first run and now i am using it. Its a blast

Also, I see these random characters on Illium I can go up and talk to, but when I do they just say something, it doesn't go into the conversation wheel or anything. One is a salarian on a phone and the other is an asari buy some hover cars or whatever. Do you get to talk to them later in the game?

i couldnt get the asari to talk directly to me, but there is a side mission that effects her. the guy on the phone will eventually talk to you after you trigger his purpose for being there

regarding grunt

 

anyone not activate him? i am curious how that plays out
