I have to hope they are using that term in the sense of 'anything but the main event' and not an untelevised fight. Diaz is one of the few stars they have, I can't imagine them burying him

Not a huge follower of MMA but I'm starting to watch it more and more. Just wondering if anyone has any idea when Rampage Jackson is fighting next?

hes a coach on TUF against Rashad Evans which is filming right now. That season of TUF is airing in september and ending in december so he'll be fighting Rashad sometime around december.

Not that bad of a card, like you said, Torres is must see and Benavidez is Uriahs number 1 training partner, probably the only reason he doesnt drop to 135 is because Benavidez will probably get a shot at Torres after this

So, Faber looking for money, knew it would happen sooner or later, the best part is when Dana responds it will probably be something like this 'Uriah Faber? oh, the guy who lost 2 of his last 3? He needs to start winning again if he wants to talk about more money, he was pretty overrated anyway...'

As much as I like Mike Brown, Uriah is the star of WEC and sells tickets in Sac like no one else, 800K+ live gate and I think Uriah got like 25k, lol, Uriah has carried the WEC for years now and is easily there biggest star

Money issues heating up with Faber and WEC

WEC is growing by leaps and bounds. All one needs to do is look at WEC 41 in Sacramento where the event pulled in 13,027 fans and around an $815,415 gate. Two of the biggest stars with organization, seeing that growth, are starting to grumble about their pay.

Last week with Cagewriter, WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Torres, 28, made mention of his salary and said he may only have a shelf life 3-4 years if the money doesn't improve. Torres also joked at the WEC 41 fan Q & A that he would only wage a superfight against Urijah Faber if "they made it worth his while."

Faber has been just as vocal. He's in a tough position. WEC helped Faber get out there on a big level. On the flip side, Faber has been a willing front man for the promotion over the last two years. But now with only one fight left on his contract, he's lost 2-of-3 fights and is coming off a broken hand. Faber wants to make sure he's taken of and sounds bothered by his pay versus what he sees the UFC's elite stars pulling in (3:40 mark):

"I definitely don't think it's a fair scale," Faber told RawVegas' Dave Farra. "They say that WEC is a different company than UFC."

Zuffa, headed up Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta along with Dana White, owns both fight organizations. When he's been told by Lorenzo Fertitta and White that WEC and UFC are different, Faber joked, "well then can you talk to the owners and see if you can pull some strings?"

Faber's only real option is in Japan unless Affliction and Strikeforce show more interest in promoting 145 pound fights in the U.S. He's hoping it doesn't come to that:

"Things will be fine as long as they're looking at me as an investment and not an expense. I've done my part, countless interviews and gone above and beyond with the PR."

Faber has been dynamite over the years with the media and fans. He's one of the top 15 fighters in the world so let's hope he sticks around after his next fight in WEC.

i agree that Faber should be paid top dollar but where else is he going to go? No other org in the US has the same depth and talent in his division than the WEC does. He could go to Japan but its not like hes a big name over there and is going to get paid that much more. Hes like the Rich Franklin (when he still fought at MW) of his weight class in the WEC, an extremely talented fighter and certainly one of the best but he just cant beat the top dog, Mike Brown.

Strikeforce should scoop him up, they are a cali based promotion, I'm sure he wouldnt mind headlining some cards and actually getting paid

You could pick up Faber and put him against any Joe Blow 145er in Sacremento and it would sell

Uriah is turning into a his own brand, guy has a big following in Sac, he can fight some decent 145ers brought over from Japan or some guys that EliteXC had fight at 145, Uriah is 30 now, I'm sure he is looking for some good money

Or he could even fight some 155ers in Strikeforce or Bellator, he has talked about moving up in the past, Thompson, Gil and maybe Noons would be some good fights, just have to careful who they match him up with because he would be a very small 155er

Eddie Alvarez has made some bank in Japan and Bellator, Faber is fighting for peanuts

Fighters to Forever be Banned from the UFC if They Take Part in the EA MMA Video Game

This disheartening bit of news first came from Golden Boy at the UG

"I hear that all mma managers were informed that if any of their clients not currently under contract with the UFC..... sign to be a part of the EA game.......the will forever be banned for fighting in the UFC."


Sounds like a simple rumor right? Albeit from a pretty reputable source, but then later in the forum post, MMA Uber agent Ken Pavia of MMAAgents.com says this.

"It's true. And they told me want the word out."

on one hand its a pretty lame move by the UFC but on the other hand i do hate EA for what they did to my beloved madden .. hmmmmm

A battle between rising heavyweights Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin is set for UFC 104 in October, MMAWeekly has learned.

Fiveouncesofpain was the first to report the match-up, and it was subsequently confirmed by sources close to the fight.

Carwin (11-0) was recently cleared for hard training after suffering a broken nose at UFC 96 that required surgery. The 34 year-old Colorado native was going down a hard road with former contender Gabriel Gonzaga before his right hand stopped the Brazilian in his tracks. The finish immediately put him on the list of heavyweight contenders.

Velasquez (6-0) is coming off an important career victory as well, running the striking gauntlet of Cheik Kongo to wrestle his way to a decision victory. The 26 year-old American Kickboxing Academy product has come up fast in the ranks with his aggressive style and collegiate wrestling credentials.

As it stands, the two should be each other's toughest test to date.

will be a good fight, but I dont like the matchmaking at this point, it seems rushed

I think Carwin should get right in the title picture now because he is already 34 years old, Cain still has a long career ahead of him and a brutal loss to Carwin could screw him up for awhile

I just want to see Brock and Carwin stand in the middle of the cage throwing bombs at each other until someone drops
