Quinnipiac 87, Robert Morris 79
The conference indicate that these two teams are the elite in the NEC. After watching this game, they are completely on a different level from the rest of the conference.
Quinnipiac shot 51% from the field and 50% from behind the arc. Sophomore James Johnson put on one of the best shooting performances I've ever seen live, scoring 28 by going 3-3 from behind the arc and 13-16 from the charity stripe. He was 6-11 from the field overall, and all but one of the shots were contested. Even with a hand or two in his face, he would drain it; very frustrating to watch.
They (Quinnipiac) seem to rely on two shooters (Johnson, senior James Feldeine who had 15 points) and the strength from their big man down low (junior Justin Rutty who had 17 points, 11 rebounds). Just an all-around good team and should do damage in the NEC tournament.
However, I believe both of us are on the same playing field talent-wise. Neither team stands out at anything, minus Quinnipiac's shooting success tonight. Rob Rob is continuing to come on at just the right time (16 points, 6 rebounds), while Velton Jones (15 points, 7 assists) and Russell Johnson (11 points, 3-5 3PT) stepped up big time. However Jones (2-6 3PT) and Karon Abraham (12 points, 3-11 FG) struggled shooting the ball, which led to our downfall.
Still with two wins, we will clinch a third-straight NEC regular season title and the NEC tournament will go through the Sewall Center. I'm eagerly anticipating a rematch with them, because even though they are good, they are beatable.
