I think conference strength is a mystery this year. This is a huge down year talent wise in the NCAA, I mean a team starting 4 freshman (albeit great players) is in the top 2 teams. I think Big 12 and the Big East are pretty close with everyone else pretty far behind.

Personally, I believe the Big East is one a level unmatched by any conference. Big12 slightly below them, but not on the same level. Then the rest follow suit after that. The Big East is untouchable by any other conference IMO

I guess its always hard to tell.

As for the Big 12, I think Texas is vastly overrated from what I've seen of them this year, and Rick Barnes is always good for a meltdown in the NCAAs. I'm used to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State being pretty good, and they are both pretty bad right now.
 
New Mexico cracks the Top 10! Big week for us this week.. Tomorrows game against an underrated Colorado State squad and the rematch against BYU on Saturday. If UNM wins both they could very well find themselves in the hunt for a two seed..

Steve Alford better merit serious COTY consideration for what he's done with this team. It's incredible.

I agree with Texas being vastly overrated. Kansas and Kansas state are legit, Baylor is a good team that I don't think anybody would like to face in the tourney [hard nosed tough team with alot of size] and Missouri can catch fire on any given night also.

Oklahoma St isin't much of a threat unless they are on home court and James Anderson is on fire. OU is struggling big time right now.

I'm not really sure what to make of TAMU even though they are third in the big 12.
 
Texas isn't overrated anymore. They used to be. When #9 K-State pulled the "upset" over then #1 Texas, Bob Knight didn't think that the K-State student section chanting "OVERRATED" was appropriate. We look pretty smart now.

K-State is legit. Just going through their schedule and looking at their good wins...they beat Dayton pretty easily, they beat Xavier by 15, they beat UNLV by 15 on the road, they beat A&M by 23, beat Texas, and won at Baylor.

They also took the best team in the country to overtime.

Oklahoma St is a pretty good team...about on Texas' or Baylor's level. They beat K-State in Manhattan...also beat Baylor and A&M. They have the leading scorer in the Big 12 in James Anderson, and he leads the category by almost 4 points.

Missouri is a really tough squad, especially at home.

A&M is still a tough team, but they used to be dangerous. They lost their 3rd leading scorer Derrick Roland in December with a broken leg. They have a good resume, but they still have to play at Baylor, and they have Texas and OK State at home.

Big 12 is on the same level to me. Big 12 has a higher RPI for what it's worth.

I heard that after tonight's win they are one of the last 4 in.

Either way it will be hard to leave them out of the tourny after tonight's win. They have proven they can compete and beat top 10 teams. Maybe it is just me being biased but their strength of schedule and quality wins are better than anyone else who is on the bubble.

That being said they have 3 games left. Home against Louisville who pounded them in the first meeting and then 2 road games against ND and USF. No gimmie games but I can see them going at least 2-1 but with the way they are playing now they should win all 3.

You didn't mention all of their terrible losses to low ranked teams though. They're so inconsistent it's not even funny. If the season ended today, yes they would probably make the tourny, but if they lose the rest of their games they're probably not going to make it. They might be able to pull off getting in if they go 2-1 and win the first game in the conference tournament, but I don't see them getting in any other way.

Obviously if they lost out then they wouldn't make it.

Who are the other bubble teams? I didn't look any of them up to see how many bad losses they had to how many good ones they have had. I can guarantee that none of the other bubble teams have as many quality wins as Uconn but they are probably close with garbage losses.

Those are just teams off the top of my head that I remember them discussing on Sportscenter besides UConn over the past 2 weeks..

K-State beat Texas Tech 83-64 tonight in Lubbock. It was the first win at Tech for the Wildcats since 1986, which I couldn't believe...6 straight road wins for K-State now. Also, Frank Martin now has 13 road wins in his 3 years at K-State. In 11 years prior to Martin's arrival, K-State had 14 road wins.

The Cats were led by Jacob Pullen's 28 points.

We have Mizzou on Saturday at Bramlage in a revenge game. Missouri took it to us pretty good in Columbia in the first meeting.

Wish the NCAA had flex scheduling...KU/K-State is next Wednesday and isn't even on national TV. Hopefully K-State can wreck Sherron Collins' Senior Night and KU's home winning streak...probably not though.

UNM wins by 6 over Colorado State.. Lobos looked flat for most of the game, shot only 38%, turned over the ball 16 times and still pull out the W.

If BYU beats SDSU, the defacto Mountain West Championship game will be Saturday in Provo.
 
Purdue @ Minny tonight I keep hearing the phrase trap game being thrown around. It's been along time since Purdue has been ranked as high as #3 so we'll see how they'll handle the success.
