'Redskins' stripped of trademarks

So explain Red Mesa High School in Arizona still naming themselves Redskins, despite the school being 99.3% Native American and the school superintendent being full-blooded Navajo. The school is also located on a reservation as well.

This really is a debilitating point. If you think its racist why not lead the movement and change your racist team name that offends an entire High School.

The problem here is the same problem the US had in the late-1800s when negotiating peace treaties. You can't treat all Native Americans as one entity. The US would sign a peace treaty with the Sioux, get attacked by the Comanche, then wonder what was going on because "Hey, we just signed a peace treaty with these Indians!". I don't think its possible for one group to speak for all Native Americans, but thats JMO.

I neither support nor am against the name change. Its not my battle to fight. I am personally not offended by the term "Redskin", and the only time I've ever used the word is in reference to the football team, but I am a callous white guy who has done terrible things to non-whites so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

If it were up to me, I would have the Redskins revert back to their original name of Braves and be done with it.

I live in an area that is heavily populated with Native Americans. In 21 years I have heard hundreds of slurs used about them, but never the term "Redskin". Everybody who hears that word associates it with the football team, not the Indians.

LOL at strawman. 80 or more high schools on indian reservations use the Redskins for a team name and American Indians would rather be Called Indians than native americans.

you can't just assign one viewpoint to an entire ethnic group, because that's racist.

Besides, what some High School names itself in Arizona is a pretty far cry from the professional football team in our nations capitol, which is supposed to be politically correct, because that is where national politics happen.
