You received a bad player for a troubled player. In Orlando, he won't be troubled since he was never the face of the franchise. In DC, Lewis will still be bad, older, and overpaid. The only, only reason this trade was done was because Lewis' deal ends one year earlier and he won't try being a leader like Gilbert could have tried.

A contender is a team that is going to contend for a championship. In a 7 game series, there is rarely a "surprise" or "upset" win, unless the teams are pretty much even to begin with. Nobody thinks that Indiana is going to win a 7 game series against Boston, Orlando, Miami, or Chicago, and then not make it by any of the teams that could make it for the West. I feel like contender is a very poor choice of word for what you were trying to say.

Also, I don't think adding Nash would make the Hawks much better than they are now. Bibby isn't exactly having a bad shooting season, and the playmaking ability Nash has over Bibby would be a minimal impact in the grand scheme of things considering Nash is a terrible defender, even if Bibby isn't a world class defender.

His numbers are also all down from every other year he's been in the league while he says he's "100% healthy". He doesn't even look good on the court anymore. He looks more timid while playing, he isn't the same guy that could put up 40 on any given night.

Rashard's contract is worse, he's a role player making 18 million dollars. Arenas' contract is what, 16 mill? But they get a player who could be much better than Shard.

Rashard has reached his potential, right now Orlando realizes they are the 4th best team in the league. With these 2 trades, they can at least compete to be in the top 2. With this trade, I take them over Miami in a 7 game series but I still think Boston wins the Eastern crown.

With this trade I feel like Orlando felt that had to do something. It's good that they realize they needed to make a move to put themselves on the level of Boston and Miami, but in doing this deal they're taking a huge gamble. I suspect Arenas will be used as the instant offense off the bench guy, which is a role that would suit him well. J-Rich is an upgrade over VC, but Turkoglu's best days are behind him, but at least with him they finally have a good passer who can handle the ball.

The Bucks last year won barelyu won 40 games, of course they weren't a contender. The Hawks/Knicks this year are both on pace for around 50-55 wins, and with Nash, that would only increase for each team.

Either way, the Suns situation is far worse than what would be awaiting him if he were traded to a PLAYOFF TEAM like New York or Atlanta. The Suns winning percentage is .480, the Hawks are at .607.

And the Hawks were missing Joe Johnson for three weeks yet still sit just 3.5 games behind the Heat, and 5.5 games back of the 1-seed. He also destroyed Miami in Game 7 in 2009 with 27 points, making 6 of 8 3-point attempts. So yeah, he can take over a game if he needs to.

And I'd argue that with Nash shouldering some of the shooting load, plus his ability to set up Joe, Horford and Josh Smith, we'd have four guys capable of taking over a game. (Let's not forget that the last time Joe played with Nash, he shot 48% from beyond the arc.)

Then you factor in Jamal Crawford who can fill it up at will, and you'd have a pretty prolific scoring team. Defensively they'd be still be pretty dreadful but that isn't the argument you made.

This is a stupid argument though because Nash probably isn't going anywhere, according to Sarver.

But a lineup with Nash/Johnson/Williams/Smith/Horford lineup with Pachulia and Jamal Crawford coming off the bench, or even one with Nash/Crawford/Johnson/Smith/Horford, would definitely be a contender to win the East. Frankly, it's moronic to say otherwise.
