I am not arguing that as currently constructed, the Hawks are not a serious contender ... But you are being moronic if you don't think upgrading at the most important position on the floor with a 2-time MVP would instantly make them an elite team.

Don't forget that Marvin Williams is a good spot shooter and Jamal Crawford was the 6th man of the year last year.

Yeah, adding one of the best passers of ALL TIME would have no effect on our 24 and 25 year old forwards. None whatsoever. Replacing a 4 assists per game guy with a 10 APG guy would suck so bad for the rest of our scorers. Boy would they hate that. And boy would we be hurting without the shooting ability of Bibby ... by adding a career 43% 3pt. shooter. Boy would that hurt.

Bibby is apparently equal to a 2-time MVP and a future HOFer all of a sudden.

I get that Nash isn't as good as he used to be, but he's still better than Mike Bibby. You are seriously overrating Bibby right now. He can barely move, hasn't penetrated the lane all season, is far worse than Nash on defense (or any other point guard, for that matter), is averaging the same assists per game as Josh Smith, and other than a career year from beyond the arc, is over the hill in every sense of the phrase. If you polled 100 Hawks fan on this, you'd get 60 votes for Nash and 40 other people laughing you out of the room before you even finished the question.

I'm not a big Nash fan but that's ridiculous. Nash is a sever upgrade over Mike fucking Bibby. Even if their defense is reduced with the inclusion of Nash their offense is significantly better.

Where did I say Nash isn't a good shooter? Where did I say Bibby is a good defender. You're kind of proving my point that they'd be an even swap. Both would be good shooters, and both play terrible defense.

You're kind of missing the entire point of my post, which wasn't to try and say Bibby is better than Nash, but that Atlanta doesn't have a problem with their offense. It's their defense. You seem to think Nash would fix this problem for them? He wouldn't. I also didn't say Bibby is the solution to their problem, but that Nash clearly isn't. If ATL got Nash, I'd peg them as a first round exit, easily.

He's a better defender than Mike Bibby, if only marginally. Bibby is probably the worst on ball defender in the NBA. Yesterday he got lit up by Sasha fucking Vujacic. And the lack of defense would be mitigated by the increase in offense. Bibby is averaging 4.0 assists per game. For comparison, Josh Smith is at 3.8 and Horford is at 3.2 ...

I get what you are saying, but to say it's an even swap is a slap in the face to Steve Nash the offensive player, and an overestimation of Bibby's defensive "skills."

Boston, Orlando, Miami, Chicago are all capable of being the top 4 seeds. If not one of them taking the fourth, they'll take the fifth, with the Hawks most likely taking the fourth... Which one of these teams do the Hawks beat in a 7 game series? Just out of curiosity?

With Steve Nash I see the Hawks beating Chicago in a 7 game series rather easily. 6 games at most. They would give Orlando and Miami a good series at the least. Boston I'm not sure about.

FWIW, Hawks blew the doors off the new-look Magic today. But yeah I agree with you Esjay, only series I would write off for us would be Boston. The others would come down to homecourt/a few breaks.

It's ridiculous to discount the impact a 2-time MVP and a veteran floor general of that caliber would have on a young and inconsistent team.

But this is all moot because I don't think Nash will get traded. It'd be awesome to see though.

I think Jason Kidd would be a much better fit for Atlanta.

Why? Theres absolutely no reason to believe that. Jason Kidd's main objective is shooting 3's at this point, and Steve Nash is considerably better then him at that. The only thing Kidd does better then Nash at this point is rebound and barely play better D (Kidd is old and slow too). People dont realize Steve Nash could be a consistent top scorer in the NBA year in and year out if he wasnt such an unselfish player. The only thing Nash is NOT going to provide for any team is a Defender, which is unfortunate, but when you consider hes replacing Mike Bibby thats not really going to matter. Nash's ability to find the best shot possible for his teammates is unmatched by anyone in the NBA right now. And dudes shot is always going to be absolute money. The comments being made in this thread comparing Bibby to Nash are ludicrous, and this isnt the first time Nash has been blatantly disrespected on this forum.

Josh Smith would have a BONER playing with Steve Nash.. he would help make that guy a much better player. Not to mention how many more open looks Joe Johnson is probably going to get and how effective Nash would be in the pick and pop with Horford. IMO it'd be a pretty solid fit for a D that already plays decent D, they can afford to take another liability on at the 1.

Jason Kidd? Hell no, he's just as immobile as Bibby, and nowhere near the shooter. Nash gives us the same 3pt. prowess to work in our motion system and also gives us the superior playmaking ability.

Nash on the Hawks is a wet dream. Jason Kidd would just piss me off.
