What makes you think Paterno's word is any good to anyone now? I don't think it is. At this point he's either dishonest or unfit to make decisions, and neither one makes him credible.

A kid I used to work with goes to Penn State and he told me that the campus is in the middle of nowhere. The campus is technically the town of State College, PA. So the "quality" of the police officers is irrelevant.

It is in the middle of PA and it is a huge campus with strict cops. The city is very busy and populated....it becomes the 3rd largest city in PA on home games.

Now Kuzzy, he said that he was told "only" that there was inappropriate behavior in the shower between Sandusky and a 10 year old boy. Since that's not enough to set off red flags.

I agree that we need more facts concerning JoePa's knowledge of the incidents in question before a decision could be made to run him off during the season. It's clear to all of us that he could have done more but he did fulfill his legal obligation to report what he had been told to his superiors. The thing that gets me is the continued access to campus facilities :facepalm:

On the campus rent-a-cop comments, even at Southern Miss the campus police are a very high speed low drag organization. They get the best of the best from HPD and surrounding cities because they have higher pay and state benefits with less exposure to violence. Almost impossible to get a job there unless you are an A+ police officer with years of experience in the field. I'd rather take my chances in the city than on campus if I was up to any shenanigans. I suspect it is like that at PSU and most major universities.

All the questions don't need to be answered by him. Oddly enough there are other ways to prove someone knew something/more than likely did without that person admitting it directly.

This investigation is going to bring a lot to light. JoePa very well may say he didn't know about anything else. Evidence could be brought out to impeach that statement.

Well good to know this thread is still spiraling in nonsense. An argument that remains the same is a pointless argument. I am going to go out on a limb and guess that people that want to wait for more information are going to continue to want to do that, just as people like NAHSTE and Kuzzy are going to continue to inflate their post counts saying the SAME THING and asking the SAME QUESTIONS, over and over and over and over and over...

I don't even have a horse in this anymore, I just can't bear to watch guys be forced to repeat themselves because they're either misquoted, misinterpreted, or just literally asked the same question 1,000 times.

Let's remember though, that w2b, seth and FT are arguing legal responsibility which will in fact have to play out in the courts.

But isn't it a foregone conclusion at this point? Do we really need to "wait for more info" when all the evidence we have is damning enough? In my mind, based on reading the grand jury report we already have, Paterno knew at least something about this over the time period these events were happening and should have been compelled to do more.

But beyond the legal ramifications, all agree Paterno no longer should be coaching. It hasn't happened soon enough though, Penn State should have fired him by now.

My take on this is that I don't care what Paterno knew or didn't know. He's over the program, he's the omnipotent figure in the program and on campus, so he has to go. If this was the CEO of Target people wouldn't be satifisfied with him saying, "Oh' well I'm going to retire at the next financial quarter." No, people, including Paterno apologist would be saying, "it happened on your watch GTFO...NOW!!"

Yes and No. In my mind there is also a level of moral culpability/blame that needs to be levied as well. I am awaiting info on that before I make my final feelings known.

I've already said he should have done more than what he did based on the one incident. That's not the issue that's even really in doubt. I've already said he should lose his job based on this one(2002) incident alone.

What I am waiting for more information on is how much more moral culpability he has for the transgressions that occurred both before 2002 and after it and what/if he knew before I decide how much I want to hate/blame the guy.

Essentially did JePa make a one time horrible choice in 2002 or was there a continued effort on his part of a wishful ignorance on his part to cover up or ignore what went on after.

Getting away from the blame/culpability game, I have a question here.... To me, this is the worst American college scandal in at least the last 40 years. In the sense of what the perpetator is being accused of - raping and sexual assaulting children. I guess perspectives on that can vary, but to me, that's one of the absolute worst things a human can possibly do, short of murder. I think most people find the child abuse that Sandusky is accused of worse than any special benefits, cheating, drugs, or even players sexually assaulting other adults... So my question is has there been something worse? Can anyone think of a more damaging, horrific thing to happen on a univesity campus?
