When it comes to child rape there is no "high horse." The facts are if you see or hear about it happening you have an obligation to put an end to it and you certainly don't let the perp continue to do it on your watch.
Put an end to it? What, now he's a cop? A judge? He reported to campus police and their so called "investigation" came up empty. Even JoePa, as a Penn State "God", doesn't have the power to arrest, charge, and try the perp. He's a fucking football coach, not a DA..
Paterno certainly has a lot of responsibility and has high expectations and this is due to his good work....and he certainly reeped the benefits of obtaining most of those expectations. However, when your in that position you have to take full responsibility for what goes on on your watch. As a molder of men and as a football coach Paterno's legacy has not changed. However, we all should learn something from this.
Fair enough, he has certainly reeped those benefits. But he's also given back a hell of a lot as well. Look, I understand that he had to go. It probably should have been done a while ago. But lumping him in with those admins, especially Schultz WHO ACTUALLY HAD THE POWER TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION AND CHARGE HIM, is unfair IMO.
I agree with you that I hope none of us ever have to deal with something like this, but not in within the context that you said it ( as a way to question our ability to handle it the way we criticized him) but instead due to the nature of the crime, which is so devestating.
There was a show a couple years ago on ABC that was called something like, What Would You Do or something like that, where they would pay actors to act out scenes where crimes or public injustices would take place and they would record reactions from normal people who were not in on it. And the number of people that would just walk away or not even blink at these situations was astounding to me.
Obviously they didn't go into child molestation, but the point is, and maybe this is a sad statement for humanity, is people as a whole would rather look the other way the other way than be bothered with a case like this. Joe didn't do that. You can argue that he didn't do enough, but he certainly
didn't bury his head in the sand and hoped this went away. That's my only issue.
But it's funny how everyone can bury this man when it's more than likely most of you wouldn't say a fucking word if it meant there was even the slightest chance of losing even a smidge of what you have.
