It's a nice thought, but unfortunately it doesn't really exist. Look at Ben Roethlisberger. He was never even CHARGED with something, yet I know plenty of people that say that equals him being a rapist.

I won't reiterate anything that W2B because he nails it pretty square on the head. That being said, it's not a fun day to be a PSU grad.

VSN barely gives athletes the benefit of the doubt but is well willing to "wait for the facts" for yet another controversy in the cess pool that is college athletics.

If someone I knew was accused of that I wouldn't just forward it up the ladder and go on about my business. Again, I find it hard to believe Paterno knew nothing about his friends sexual exploits and even if he didn't and did what he though he was supposed to do I would think he'd at least inquire about what he reported to the AD.I mean it did involve his good friend, coach and did happen in his locker room. Do they not have coffee machines at PSU? It sounds more like they were hoping it would just go away.

It's unbelievable to me that some are trying to see shades of gray in this. I could see if Paterno was blindsided by this in 2002, but this was not even the first time.

Legally, no he doesn't. Morally, sure/maybe/whatever you feel. Legally, no. That's the only point I was making. Legal professionals have already come out and said as much. They obviouly understand the Pennsylvania state law better than you or I, so what exactly are you even arguing about at this point?

This is the first time in VSN's history that you got guys imploring, "let the facts come out first" "none of us saw the report, so we don't know what Paterno did"

The facts are this, Sandusky was comitting sexual crimes against children

Paterno knew

The AD knew

the VP knew

People at PSU knew

None were proactive and reported this guy to the proper authorites and this guy was allowed to perform these acts for years

Everyones knows the law does not fuck around when it comes to a sexual predator, they will get you off the streets if there's even a hint of that kind of activity reported.....

Jesus you are being hardheaded about this. We don't know what Paterno knew. You are making assumptions. Now post that link again which allows you to continue with said assumptions. Then I'll say all of this again and you can post that link again, and at the end of the day we can have the same discussion 6 more times because we disagree on a fundamental level. It's a pointless discussion at this juncture.

Should Paterno resign if it comes to light/is proven when all this is done that he failed terribley from moral stand point? Yes.

That's compeltely different than saying he's legally responsible for not reporting it.

Take issue with the law if you will but I'm just sayin' Paterno isn't legally responsible in this matter based on state of Pennsylvania law.

Again, legal professionals and law enforcement already said Paterno broke no law. The law would require Joe Pa have first hand knowledge of the situation in question to report it. He didn't. It was brought to him by someone else.

But how do you know he didn't follow up with the AD? How do you know he isn;t outraged? How do you know he didn't go to the police on his own accord at some point? How do you know he didn't deal with the parents of the victims quietly and on his own accord?

I can go on and on. I have no dog in the fight. I'm not an irrational OSU or Michigan fan, or a biased PSU fan. The man is a GOD in the community. If he wanted all of this hushed and handled quietly, and he likely did, it would be hushed and handled quietly. It was going to get out and some point either way, but who had any idea there was even grand jury testimony taking place to begin with? Basically, we have people indicting Paterno here based on conjecture, when 24 hours ago nobody even knew an investigation of this magnitude was taking place. But now somehow we KNOW Paterno was part of some kid touching syndicate? Get lost. I'll let it play out.

State police Commissioner Frank Noonan said, as far as state police can tell, Paterno fulfilled his legal requirement to report.

"But somebody has to question about what I would consider the moral requirements for a human being that knows of sexual things that are taking place with a child," Noonan said. "I think you have the moral responsibility, anyone. Not whether you're a football coach or a university president or the guy sweeping the building. I think you have a moral responsibility to call us."
