You guys really expect me to believe that, if you found out someone at your workplace was committing heinous sex crimes against children you honestly "wouldn't know how I would react" and would look the other way whether they were a friend or not...this gives me two options to ponder

1. This is a really fucked up world

2. Everyone ain't keeping it real

I hope to God it's option 2....I have young kids though, so I know a few of y'all do not share my perspective.....the really fucked up thing is, I'm pretty sure those men had kids too and they still didn't say shit

Again, are you telling me you would be running for the phone to call the cops after hearing an accusation thrown towards one of your friends? Sorry, I don't buy that. Maybe that makes me a monster, too. Idk. I would need to see something like that with my own eyes or have more compelling evidence than a second hand account from one person to willingly call the police on a friend. My reaction would have probably been to tell the GA to call the cops. You saw it, YOU call. Why are you dragging me into this? Paterno was in a tough spot.

Yeah, one question I have. Why didn't the guy call the police? According to the Grand Jury report, he called his dad and went to his house that night. The next day, Mike McQueary (the GA's name) went to Paterno and the next day, Paterno went to his ridiculous superiors. They didn't contact McQueary until over a week later.

You serious? This wasn't even the first time. You are completely skating over the fact that four years earlier, Penn State brass had to make Sandusky promise never to take showers with little boys again.

So fast forward a few years, and Paterno gets a report that Sandusky is (again) spotted in the shower with a little boy, and he's still willing to give this creep the benefit of the doubt?

The fact remains that this wasn't the first time it had happened though. If it was the first time, I suppose I could see it that way but it wasn't.

Putting myself in Paterno's shoes, I would have probably handled it exactly the same way. He slept on it, and the next day made the decision to report it up and allow the university to handle it.

If McQueary or the school does the right thing, nobody is finger pointing Paterno today. McQueary was protecting his career, and the school was protecting its reputation. Paterno could have let the thing die in his living room. Doesn't sound to me like he was covering for anyone.

And Penn State didn't just stop short of reporting this, they also kept Sandusky directly associated with the program. Not only did they not wash their hands of this guy, they carried on like nothing was wrong.

Hell, he was working out in their weight room as recently as a few days ago. So somehow they've been able to associate with this guy and look him in the eye and continue to allow him in the facilities for NINE FUCKING YEARS ...

Yeah, not gonna give Paterno any slack on this one. He grossly mishandled this, along with his superiors.

But he didn't give him the benefit of the doubt, he called his bosses and reported the fucker.

I'm not sure why you guys are holding Paterno accountable for reporting something to the police that McQueary witnessed.

And again, until we know what Paterno told the police (and when), what he told the grand jury, what he told his bosses, and what he told McQueary, I am not comfortable throwing him under the bus.

We have no idea what the relationship dynamics between Paterno, Sandusky, and the school admin are.

I want more information.

I disagree there. It's not like if Paterno is not told that night, he's a saint.

Fact remains that Paterno had to have known of the accusations in the late 1990s (there was an investigation about it). It's easy to connect the dots and believe that's why Paterno told him he wasn't becoming head coach...and led to his retirement.

Add the accusations from McQueary in 2002.

He can't claim he knew nothing, IMO. That wouldn't make sense.

And you know that he didn't?

Nobody is privy to his involvement in the investigation aside from the police, who interestingly enough did not arrest the man and have essentially cleared him of any wrongdoing.

It's all speculative at this point what Paterno did/did not do. It will come out, and then we can be fair.

That's inexcusable.

I agree, we don't know what was sad but after the 1998 incident and word on the 2002 incident it may have been a good idea to cut ties with Sandusky. Paterno decided not to do that. To me, that allows him to be held accountable no matter what was sad to the authority or how the situation was handled internally.

So, if a good friend of yours for decades was accused of raping boys in your locker room and you had prior knowledge of him doing this in the past, which is why he was told to not bring boys into the locker room all you would do is forward the information up to the AD and move on? In that 9 year span you wouldn't ever wonder to yourself, "Hey, what happened with my boy Stardusky's butt raping accusation?" I mean...true or not that's a serious accusation. That's the part I find odd.

Cut ties in the sense of him working on the staff. He didn't CUT TIES with him though if he actively allowed him to participate with the team, in practices, run football camps under the guise of his program, etc.
