I want to hear why Sandusky was allowed to hang around the campus and retain an office at the facilities beyond the point of his employment.

Probably because,

this is a situation where you have guys who have been friends for decades

So, if a good friend of yours for decades was accused of raping boys in your locker room and you had prior knowledge of him doing this in the past, which is why he was told to not bring boys into the locker room all you would do is forward the information up to the AD and move on? In that 9 year span you wouldn't ever wonder to yourself, "Hey, what happened with my boy Stardusky's butt raping accusation?" I mean...true or not that's a serious accusation. That's the part I find odd.

What i'm saying, is I want to hear Paterno explain this, turn on my bullshit detector, and base my judgement at that point. There is too much that we don't know. It's possible Paterno wanted nothing to do with the guy for all we know.

You guys are also underestimating personal relationships and human emotion. Prisons are filled with innocent men...according to their mothers. It is entirely possible Paterno simply did not believe his friend was a creep.

I'm leaning towards being against Paterno here, but i'm still in "wait & see" mode. And I do think some of you are disregarding the power of doubt when it comes to close relationships.

If my friend was a Vikings fan, I'd give him shit for it. If my friend voted republican, I wouldn't talk politics around him. If he had multiple DUI's, I would be sure to bring enough money for cab fare when we go out.

If my friend had multiple allegations made against him for inappropriate behavior with a child, I'd never talk to the motherfucker again, and I'd make damn sure that the police knew every detail I did about the situation.

There is no defending Paterno's role in this. Sandusky has had a half dozen serious allegations made against him from multiple sources over the course of many years and continued to be a part of the football program. This we KNOW. This is inexcusable for anyone, let alone a respected public face of a state institution that exists to shelter and educate young people.

From reading the article and facts it sounds like to me the school was trying to cover it up for the betterment of the program/school. They tried to handle it in-house is hopes of it not getting out. I'm not sure about you, but if someone came to me and told me a good friend was seen, subjecting a boy to anal intercourse I'm going to confront them and the police.

Shit, if someone came to me with that info, I'd yell at them why didn't they put a stop to it and help that poor kid? I'm sure if any of us witnessed that, we'd kick the dude's ass, then call the cops.

Yes, we do.

Paternos role = Allowed a man with multiple sexual assault allegations to do things like work out, visit the showers, run overnight football camps, and overall have continued, if unofficially, as a member of the staff. Re-word the role all you want, he shouldn't have been within 25 miles of campus ever again after the first allegation, let alone multiple allegations.

Here's what rational people do in that situation:

Call your buddy up. "Hey man, you know, you've been my friend for multiple decades, and you can come over and play cards with me and my wife anytime you want, I have your back and I will always care about you as the lifelong friend you are, but you can't be anywhere near my football program. I have been a college football icon for multiple decades and the state of Pennsylvania / our boosters pay an awful lot of money to me and to my employees and I just can't risk anything like (this exact situation) occuring."

This is a major fucking blow to the universities EVERYTHING. You have PSU grad SethMode fucking embarrassed right now. Grads are just repulsed by this....the recruiting fallout is already showing with Spence tweeting basically saying "ewww" to going to PSU. More will follow I'm sure...

Just clean house because right now everyone associated with this and still around is being blamed. JoePa, you too...a lot of fans want PSU to clean house with everyone involved.

VSN barely gives athletes the benefit of the doubt but is well willing to "wait for the facts" for yet another controversy in the cess pool that is college athletics.

If he wasn't a legendary coach we'd be waiting in line to talk about how sick this is and how everyone involved needs to be made accountable.

I actually think the opposite. More might be defending him because he's a coaching legend, but it's a much smaller story if it's some random mid-major college. It's true. I mean, look at how much coverage of this is centered around JoePa. The coverage and conversation should be about Sandusky being a monster and the AD being every bit as much a dirtbag to try and cover it up. Then onto the Grad Assistant. THEN to his Dad and JoePa. Paterno could have done more, pretty obviously. But it's also easier with the help of hindsight. How is he supposed to know at the time that the AD was so shady? Ideally, he'd call the police when he heard. Then again, ideally, the GA would or his Dad would. Them sending this info up is a failure on their part, but it's really a secondary story to me. The real concern is that Sandusky and the AD are nothing short of monsters, and should be penalized to the fullest extent of the law and then some. The Grad Assistant has some things to explain too, but I give him a slight benefit of the doubt just for walking into that mess. He was probably just going about his day and could be almost as scarred by it as the kid. Nobody wants to be any part of that disgusting act. But you KNOWING that, you're more responsible to report it. Legally and morally. Moreso than JoePa or his Dad in hearing that it happened and not knowing for sure. They should have reported it to the authorities. They didn't. That's wrong. But I don't feel like either of them are very responsible for the mess. If the AD does his job and takes control of this and reports it, everyone comes off better.

I read an article on ESPN that they couldnt go to police because it was a "my word against his word type thing" but I dont get that. Bottom line, this is just sick and to tell him to just stop coming to the campus is just as bad. Those kids were fucked up to start with now this on top of it and then to relive it in court.

This is worse then any "paying players" that any other college has ever done. "Happy Valley" is going to be a circus this week and they have Nebraska coming to town.

We are talking allegations of child molestation, however when Michael Jackson died, it seemed as if all of those things went away.. Paterno isn't even the predator in question. Wow gotta love the double standard.
