The Sandusky Trial has begun with jury selection expected to take up the entire week. Opening arguments could begin as soon as Monday.

The jury pool is made up of people living in State College and the prosecution will have to weed out any people who've developed opinions from the media, anyone with a connection to Penn State or the Second Mile charity.

ABC says the Prosecution has apparent love letters Sandusky wrote (in his handwriting) to his victims and they'll be read aloud in court next week.

Their witness list sounds like its potentially 100 people long. Insane.

On twitter this afternoon there was a tweet saying they selected a kid who worked in the AD department last year, and showed up to the jury selection wearing a Penn State jersey. WTF.

Yeah, the jury selection had to deal with all sorts of PSU connections.

They picked 9 and have 3 and 4 alternates left.

-A longtime PSU Football season ticket holder (her husband worked with Mike McQueary's dad in the past)
-A PSU student
-An alum with an undergrad and grad degree from PSU
-A former PSU professor

And the others who apparently have little or no connection to PSU:

-An adult male who will attend technical school
-A working mother of two
-A retired bus driver
-An engineer
-A property management employee

The Judge says the jurors will not be sequestered

When I read the story about the jury selection, I remember thinking that that would be hard in an area as small as State College. This is just a joke though.

We're going to find out a lot about the people who live in this area. If somehow Sandusky gets off or receives a lighter sentence than he should, Penn State will become public enemy #1 in college football.

The feds are already looking into it. They see the writing on the wall that Sandusky is going to walk in Pennsylvania and are going to go after Sandusky for Victim #4 who he took across state lines to a bowl game (remember how this isn't a football story?).

All of the 16 people are white.

The trial will begin Monday morning.

1. Woman #1 - PSU's College of Earth and Mineral Sciences' department admin. assistant
2. Woman #2 - PSU professor in an unknown department
3. ??????? - A PSU senior who works in the athletic facility
4. ??????? - A local high school teacher with two degrees from PSU
5. Woman #3 - PSU football season ticket holder for 36 years
6. Man #1 - Will enroll later this year at the PSU affiliated Pennsylvania College of Tech
7. Women #4 - A dance teacher with PSU's continuing education program and mother of a young boy
8. Man #2 - his father worked at the PSU Office of Physical Plant for 30 years
The other 4 jurors don't have PSU ties

ALT 1. Male in his 50s, a PSU graduate and football fan whose wife works at PSU
ALT 2. Woman, a 2007 PSU graduate..ironically Sandusky spoke at her graduation

To be fair, it'd be hard to find someone who didn't have an opinion on the case, this was everywhere and the talk of the state for a good while.

If you are pulling jurors from State College, than you are going to get people that most likely have strong ties to PSU. Shouldn't really be a suprise to anyone. It sounds like a lot of you guys seem to think this helps Sandusky in some way. I'm not sure why. If this was a criminal case against Paterno, I would understand your concern. But Sandusky, to put it mildly, is not very popular among Penn State alums, at least thats what I get from the people I know and what I've read.

This clownshow doesn't reflect poorly on Pennsylvania State, it reflects poorly on Pennsylvania, the state.

There are opinions on both sides whether the people with PSU backgrounds will hurt the prosecution or hurt Sandusky.

After all the evidence that's going to be shown...the defense will almost certainly be based on calling all the kids/now adults liars to some degree. I don't see how he gets off all the charges unless they can prove any of the charges are false.

I guess we'll find out. I can see some people aka the ones that work in the Athletic Department would see a guilty plea as a negative reflection on Penn State Athletics and the University. Not sure, I'd hope not, but judging by how a lot of PSU people have acted in response to this, it wouldn't surprise me. Shit someone drove by the courthouse two days ago and said "FREE SANDUSKY!".

Doesn't really matter, in the end he'll get his when the feds come down on him. The federal investigation will reflect much worse on PSU since he took victim four to a PSU Bowl Game.
