Off topic, but I hope we do another VSN money league for fantasy baseball. Although we sure as fuck aren't giving the money to houtz, that curly headed fuck still hasn't sent me the money.

It would be nice to get a group of 12 guys who actually pay attention. Off memory, I think only Fedex, Leftwich, Kuzzy, and I were active. Might have forgotten someone though.

But like the rest of you, I don't know anyone in real life interested in doing a fantasy baseball league unless it's the once a week crap, and even then they'll forget about it by May.

I didn't play this year...Haven't for 2-3.

Usually somewhere between 8-12 team leagues. Live draft.

I was going to play last season but I was in the middle of moving and didn't have the internetz during all the drafts.

My cousin runs 10-team, $50-entry leagues for football, basketball, and baseball every year. It's been the same exact people for a few years now as well. Every person pays up and follows it throughout the entire season.

This was my final roster. The only players on there that I had actually drafted were Butler, Crawford, McCann, Pedroia, Ramirez, Bailey, Beckett, and Haren. The rest were picked up off waivers.

That's a nice team for sure. Very, very surprised Carlos Gonzalez was not drafted by someone but don't get me wrong, waiver is still a HUGE deal in fantasy baseball.

My point was you aren't usually led by waiver pickups in baseball or basketball. Do they put you over the hump? Absolutely. But they aren't your best guys.

My best guys in fantasy football are Peyton Hillis, Steve Johnson, Jamaal Charles and Brandon Lloyd.

I mean even with Gonzalez you still had a top 5 fantasy guy in Hanley and a top 15-20 in Crawford.

That's what I mean, this may be a pretty good league but for Carlos Gonzalez and Martin Prado to not be drafted.

I'd say after playing these stupid games for something like 15 years, that picking up/starting random players, and essentially throwing players against the wall to see if they stick, yields far more success in football than baseball.

In football, any starting RB has some value. This isnt true for any SP or any starting 3B. If Brandon Phillips gets injured, nobody runs to the wire to claim Paul Janish or Chris Valaika. When starting RB's get injured, fantasy players fall over each other to pick up guys they have never fucking heard of.

I think out of the three sports, Fantasy Basketball is the one where the draft matters the most. Due to the small rosters, you usually end up just picking up/dropping from within the same 3 or so bench spots the entire season.

Yeah FF is as described in this thread. I work with a guy in first place who outside of the Steelers doesn't know much about anyone in the NFL. He knows the big name guys like LT, TO, etc. The funny part is that when he drafted those two guys we all laughed at him and said his team sucks. Well, little did we know both of them would be having these great seasons and he's in 1st place because of it. He drafted Brees and traded him the first week Roethlisberger returned.

I work with another guy who swears up and down he' the best FF player alive. Last year his team finished 9-3 and he won the championship. This year his team is currently 4-7 and out of the playoffs. Fantasy sports is all so random and based on aspects fanstasy players can't control.

I absolutely HATE HATE HATE 90% of the football talk that goes on in the real world because all of it is a bunch of ass-tards who go out shopping and play video games on Sunday then have the fucking nerve to tell me how awesome TO is doing.

On top of that my screen is clusterfucked with overlays and stats that dont in anyway pertain to the game Im watching. During the NY/Dal black out there was a drive where there was NO on screen graphics. Holy shit it felt good. Outside of the first down marker I didnt miss a single thing. Keep me updated with mcdonalds game breaks , and the once a quarter ticker.

This reminds me, I've noticed this year that I HATE talking about football with people. It always ends up in me being told a story about how someone got 7 points from Danny Amendola and it won him the game in some random league. Also, this same league is ALWAYS ultra-competitive and there is never anyone even halfway decent on the waiver wire, and picking up Amendola in week 4 was arguably the best fantasy move of all-time. I don't give two shits about any of this, and your league isn't any different from mine, so just stop.

It doesn't help that there are countless "expert" mags telling people sleepers to pick up, who to start, who to sit.. etc etc.

Before fantasy football really exploded, if you knew football.. you had an inherit advantage over your league. Now? You basically just read and react to what ESPN/CBS/FOX spit back out at you.

I was in an auction keeper league awhile back and I have to say.. that's probably the best form of fantasy football. If you eff that up it not only sets you back that season, but potentially further seasons down the line.

I agree. I still remember my FF experience started out with me finding a book on how to play it at the public library. Really basic. We held outr first draft on our picnic table in my back yard. This was back in like 1994 or so. My dad, My friend, his dad, and I all played in our own little four person league and I'd add up the points each week from the box scores in the newspaper.


Eventually it evolved into me joing a cash/keeper league with my dad and they had a website but we never really talked shit. It was an excuse to get together in August and draft.

Now anyone and everyone is in one. Everyone is a football expert because they won a league 7 years ago. Hell, my dad is in an ESPN league and didn't even draft his team. He just hit the auto draft button and it did it for him. The league is based out of Las Vegas.

The thing I miss about FF is the intimacy it used to have when you used to have to do scoring by hand or were in a local league. You can be in a FF league, do well, and never really give it much effort.

My team went off for 125 points this week (that's a good score for them) but I lost by 4 points because my fucking kicker threw up a goose egg (Carpenter for Miami).

I haven't played in several years, but got sucked into it because my buddy and a few of my friends wanted to get a league together. It's kinda fun to do it with your friends and talk shit to each other, but mostly it's pretty annoying because the guy who started the league knows jack shit about football and drafted every Dallas Cowboy he could because that's his favorite team.

..Not really. Basketball and baseball require quite a bit more attention, strategy, and "skill".

FF you can have it auto draft the league. Look at it once a week and win.

All Fantasy sports suck. Especially ones where you have to go and manage your lineup everyday. None of them take skill. Remembering to log in everyday and update the lineup isn't a skill it's an inconvenience. The biggest "skill" you can have is being better than everyone else at picking up players off waivers.

And there's no such thing as a bad beat, it's irrelevant when the game is played. It doesn't matter if a TD happens within the first minute of the Thursday game or last second of the MNF game. Captain obvious I know but still...if you don't want to deal with the pain of a FF bad beat wait until Tuesday morning to check the score.
