Maybe it's because I never played for Gregg Williams or the great Butch Cattolico, but I can not recall a football coach ever telling me to "knock people out".

You are failing to grasp the concept of why offering money in exchange for the injury of another human being is wrong, and you are hiding behind your exaggerated and false ideas that football is about hurting people. Football is about scoring more points that the other team. Any football coach that teaches young people that football is about hurting people should not be around kids, and any adult who offers money in exchange for injuring someone is probably committing a criminal act, to be honest.

Here is where we disagree.

Football is about hurting other people. It is about inflicting pain and striking fear into your opponent. It is the closest thing to war that you can come to on this planet that it is perfectly legal and glorified. That is the beauty of it to me. That is why I loved it. That's why I played defense and not offense. I wanted to hit people.

Like I said, you're not out to seriously injure somebody. You don't want to break anyone's legs or kill somebody. But the attitude you have to have is that you are going to run through anybody, no matter how big or tall or strong he is, or you won't make it very far.

The kids that make it this far have that attitude. The one's that don't won't make it. That's just how the sport is. I didn't make it that way, that's just how it is.

I don't support a coach giving cash to someone for injuring another player. I am against that. But the reality of the situation is that it really doesn't make a difference, these guys are going to go out and hurt each other whether a cash incentive is hanging over their heads or not so I don't really care about this story at all.

You really don't understand the violence of the game. Honestly I have put the process in text for you to read and hopefully understand. The game has been diluted enough of the violence. I recall a certain ESPN segment called Jacked Up. Was quite an entertaining feature. Full of big hits in an already violent game. Guess all those guys should have just hugged the guy until he hit the ground. Bet James Harrison scored a few pennies for laying the wood on Colt McCoy. Defense is meant to be mean and aggressive. Nobody knows if it's going to happen without the bounties. That's what's fucked up about this. If the Saints defense is not rewarding guys for fucking players up, perhaps Kurt Warner and Brett Favre don't get those hits.

Playing in the course of the game is different than coaches rewarding players for knocking guys out of games and injuring them.

No one has accused the Steelers of paying guys to hurt opponents, so I don't see what dragging them into this has to do with anything.

This idea that NFL players are actively seeking to injure one another is completely off base, but clearly you will never be swayed off of that.

The general public should be appalled by bounties. Because it's appalling behavior to pay people to injure others. It taking place in a football field doesn't make it any less appalling.

What naivety? If there are other teams paying guys to injure opponents, it'll get out and they will be punished, too.

This isn't just playing defense. It's going onto the field with the intent to injure opponents AND rewarding them with financial bonuses. This is not a normal thing practiced by NFL teams.

As far as we know, this is a system promoted by Greg Williams.

What is happening is ignoring is that the system was also a performance based incentive. So ANY big hit, or good play got rewarded. That is honestly where the naivety is coming in. That and assuming this isn't happening elsewhere. That's like thinking your mom and dad have only had sex to have you and whatever siblings you have.
