It doesn't matter where the money came from or that they were "incentive" bonuses. The problem comes from the fact that players were told to get $$$ bonuses, they had to injure and knock guys out of games.

The general public should be appalled by bounties. Because it's appalling behavior to pay people to injure others. It taking place in a football field doesn't make it any less appalling.

Playing in the course of the game is different than coaches rewarding players for knocking guys out of games and injuring them.

No one has accused the Steelers of paying guys to hurt opponents, so I don't see what dragging them into this has to do with anything.

So if I go knock a guy out in my next game because I wanted to it's perfectly ok, but if you find out my coach gave me $100 to do it it's not ok?

Chances are I was going to go out and try to knock him out anyway, but now that I'm being paid to do it makes it wrong?

Football is about hurting other people. It is about inflicting pain and striking fear into your opponent. It is the closest thing to war that you can come to on this planet that it is perfectly legal and glorified. That is the beauty of it to me. That is why I loved it. That's why I played defense and not offense. I wanted to hit people.

Nothing dirty going down? I've seen a guy kick another man in the face. How is that not dirty or barbaric? As opposed to a guy with pads and a helmet, a flac jacket, and all sorts of other padding hielding him from another hit is more barbaric?

If there are nutbags in the NFL actively trying to hurt other players, no one likes it but unless that douche opens his mouth about it, no one will ever know the difference.

But if the coaches promote injuring players, then yes, that's fucked up and they deserve strict punishment from ownership and the league.


Aside from all this, the Saints could get their punishments moreso from coverups in the organization than the act itself.
